Sorry that my update is a bit late this week! We went on a long
weekend to Bolivia to get our visas renewed and thus internet access
has not been quite so readily availaible.
It was lovely to get away and we did many nice things including
visiting lake Titikaka ( apparently the highest navigable lake in the
world ). A few people were affected by the altitude but nobody very
seriously. Most of us just found that we got out of breath very
quickly which was a little bit scary. One of the highlights of the
trip for me was was staying on a UROS island in the middle of the lake
in teepees. The Uros are a native people group who now survive by
tourism. It was much colder at this altitude so going back to Pisco on
Sunday was quite a shock!
After our break everybody has felt very refreshed at work. It has been
a really exciting week because having been putting together the
structure of the building on the ground and digging holes for the
foundations we finally managed to erect the structure of the first two
walls - It was so satisfying because we finally got to see some of our
work! Praise God that no one got hurt because we had a multitude of
Peruvians who turned up to help who were just running all over the
site falling into the foundations and getting caught under the walls.
They seem to have no fear!
I don´t know if I have mentioned that whilst we are here in Peru we
have two projects. As we are now approaching the half-way point of our
time out here, it will soon be time to move to our next project (also
in Pisco). This means that we will only manage to finish the structure
of the building. Although we always new this would be the case because
Latin Link doesn´t like STEP teams to complete projects ( they want
the peruvians to have ownership of the project) it is going to be hard
to leave this project especially when we love the people at the church
so much and we have made so much progress with the building. Please
pray that the team will adjust to this transition. I will tell you
more about our next project ( starting in 2 weeks) in a subsequent
email.
Thank you so much for your prayers. We really feel at home here in
Pisco and we have built some really great relationships. Thank you so
much for your prayers for Viktor ( our foreman and friend ) who we now
know very well and who is always chatting to the team about christian
things even though is not yet a christian. Please do continue to pray
for him. Later this evening we are going to play football with him and
some of our other peruvian friends!
Sorry this is of such length. A final prayer request is for me and the
team as we prepare for Sunday´s service. I am leading the Sunday
School and others are involved in testimonies, dramas etc. Please pray
we would be a blessing to he chuch here.
With much love to you all! I hope all are well and enjoying the springtime.
